In preparation for my return to the States, I dug out my copy of John Steinbeck’s, “Travels with Charley.” I wanted to find inspiration to help grease my imagination before preparing my itinerary. Steinbeck set out to rediscover America. I shall have to be content with rediscovering the East Coast. It has been 3 years since I’ve touched soil of my birthplace. My only view of the States is painted with the tainted brush of journalists and the British Press. I have lost touch with the attitudes and feelings of every day people. I do get a small taste of what people are feeling by reading various weblogs. But my intent for this trip is to see for myself, get some first hand accounts of what is going on at the ground level.

I slept very sound last night after having stayed awake for 24 hours the previous day. I could tell it was a deep sleep because my alarm had to wake me up, which is a rare occurrence. I’m usually awake before dawn. It is my habit to get up between 0430 and 0500, and spend 2 hours dedicated to myself without interruption by people, phones, texts, or faxes. I spend the time mostly reading, sometimes writing, often just reflecting on my life over a cup of coffee.

I won a free flight to the States today. Awesome. I haven’t been home now for 3 years, so it’ll be good to get back across the big pond and visit family and friends. I’m scheduled to fly from heathrow to boston (i don’t know anyone in boston that’s just were the ticket was for). My plan at the moment is to make my way from boston to augusta, ga with lots of pit stops to visit folks. I’ve been to Boston many many moons ago. I think I’ll stop over in boston for a day to visit some of the places i didn’t get to see first time around. Then it’s down to connecticut to visit my uncle and his family. I haven’t seen my uncle H. for at least 4 or 5 years now. Then it’ll be down to new jersey. i’ve got a lot of places to visit in jersey (my birthplace) and then it’ll be down to georgia.
