We Think Too Small

I don’t think I’ve ever quoted Mao Tse-Tung before, but this little aphorism spoke to me this morning:

“We think too small. Like the frog at the bottom of the well. He thinks the sky is only as big as the top of the well. If he surfaced, he would have an entirely different view.”

We tend to think within the limits of what we know. To see other possibilities requires us to step outside of what we know, which for many of us can be a scary place. We take comfort in the fact that if we do ‘X’ we know we’ll get ‘Y’ as a result. It’s a control thing. We feel better if we have control (even if that control is an illusion).

But like the frog, I wonder what would happen if you pushed the boundaries of your comfort zone, what would you see?

What possibilities await you?
