The chessboard is the world, the pieces are the phenomena of the universe, the rules of the game are what we call the laws of Nature. The player on the other side is hidden from us. We know that his play is always fair, just and patient.
– Thomas Huxley
A reoccurring theme in The Alchemist is that the universe conspires to help those who are in pursuit of their destiny. Once a person commits to truly following their dreams, the universe, will do everything it can to help make the dream a reality. The problem is we want the Universe to hurry up and get on with it.
We have become accustomed to getting things on demand. You can print books on demand, order movies on demand, download music on demand, get mail (e) on demand, and you can even get you grocery shopping on demand. We truly have become an instant society.
Some people think the Law of Attraction is the on demand service for our dreams. This of course is not true. The Law of Attraction is a mental orientation, not a magic lamp that you rub to get what you want instantly.
I’ve always found that these things take time. You have to commit to your dreams before events are set in motion. This motion has a rhythm of its own and some times this rhythm isn’t in time with what we have in mind. We want things to happen quickly. We want them to happen now. I have found that the universe doesn’t operate in this manner. Forces and events have to be moved around the chessboard in a certain sequence before we can get what we want.
Some times there are lessons hidden in our actions that have to be learned first before the things we want are set in motion. The idea here is to be patient and know that Providence is at work in your life if you want it to be. You have to open you heart and listen. The answers are there if you have the patience to listen for them.
One last word on dreams:
