Last night playing poker I learned or rather confirmed something about myself – I hate to lose. So much so that I’ll throw good money after bad just for the chance to beat someone.
Bad move on my part.
Poker is not a game to be played with emotion. A cool, calm, calculating mind is required to win consistently at poker. Patience the is key. I had tripled my money and then lost it all trying to beat one player who seemed to be winning a lot of pots with a lot of junk and it was pissing me off and I lost control and got emotional. Bad, bad news. I had nearly trebled my money and then blew all but my initial stake trying to beat this guy. After a while the game, for me, at least, ceased to be about the money. It became a simple matter of winning and losing.
